Xampled: the "Amen break" (The Winstons)
The "Amen Break" is four bars of the drum break lifted from the song "Amen Brother" as performed by the 1960s funk/soul outfit The Winstons. The song is an uptempo, instrumental rendition of the gospel music classic "Amen". It is unknown, but doubtful, whether the drummer, G.C. Coleman, has received any royalties for the sampling of his drum part.

this is but the tip of the iceberg for the "amen break." at this pointone could list thousands of tracks that use it. what an amazingly flexible - and awesome - bit of drumming, as compelling rhythmically as it is timbrally (gotta love that ol' analog sound).

The picture posted is not of The Winstons!They are a rip-off group from DC who like all the pimps who have used my (I own the copyright to Amen Brother)song are revolting.
I am one of the original Winstons ,the one along with Gregory Coleman,created the song and as with the other members,Phil,Quincy, Ray, and Sadi,have never received apenny for our work.Richard. L. Spencer

I am thoroughly disappointed at all of the comments that I read from decent sounding young people who are not appalled that works by artists such as Greg and the rest of us in The Winstons can be ripped off by hundreds of artist and they do not protest.I am the copyright owner of The Amen Drum Break which was created by fellow Winston Greg Coleman and neither of us have ever received a penny for our product.

I am an avid fan of that break who, as a drummer myself, always wonder what kind of drumkit Gc coleman was playing on that record... and ride and crash cymbal if you know??
