Here is another one:
Pop will eat itself - “Not now james, we’re busy”
A song that was written about his infamous police chase.
Further tunes with the sample:
Candy Flip - Strawberry Fields Forever
INXS - Guns In The Sky (Kick Ass RMX)
James Brown - She’s The One (Norman Cook’s Funky Drummer RMX)
Snap - Blazé Blazé
The Stone Roses - Fools Gold (A Guy Called Gerald RMX)
I love the Funky Drummer beat. One of my favorites of all time. But you’ve made a mistake with 2 cuts. Eric B. & Rakims Paid In Full, and Milli Vanilli’s Girl You Know It’s True. The beat used in those cuts are drum breaks from Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers song Ashley’s Roachclip. (The sample is was also used in Run DMC’s Run’s House, and LL Cool J’s Jack The Ripper)
I found two more songs in my own collection:
- “Call it what you want” from Credit to the nation (with also a stunning guitar-loop from Nirvana’s “Smells like teen spirit”) and
- “Kaleidoscope Skies” from the german musicians Jam & Spoon.
But, one question: What is with Madonna’s “Justify my love” ??

RIP to a true legend, 1933 to 2006. Has anyone seen a comprehensive list of James Brown samples used in music? Seems like a tough find even on the internet…
